BIFMA QUALITY SYSTEM STANDARD
Approved May 24, 2004
About the BIFMA Quality Standard:
The Quality Subcommittee of the Supply Chain Management Committee has completed the development of a BIFMA Quality Standard. The Subcommittee completed the transformation of the document known as the OFIC 9000 Quality System Standard into an approved BIFMA Standard. The work on the proposed BIFMA Quality document took place in late 2003 and the early months of 2004. The Quality System document can be downloaded from the BIFMA website at www.bifma.org - Member Resources.
As part of completing a successful audit, the accredited auditor will send the information of the successful completion of a supplier, and BIFMA will issue a certificate with the supplier's name and the date of the audit. BIFMA will maintain the records of the certificates issued.
Note To All OEM Suppliers to the Office Furniture Industry
1. With the merger of OFIC and BIFMA International and changes from ISO-9000-1994 to ISO-9000-2000, what previously was the OFI-9000 Quality System Standard has been revised and incorporated within the BIFMA standards and records database. The Right Place will no longer be the source of this information.
2. The OFI-9000 standard has been re-titled to the BIFMA Quality System Standard v9.3.
3. The standard has been revised to incorporate the changes implemented from ISO-9001-2000, inclusively retaining the original format of 20 elements.
4. The standard has been released to version 9.3 (v9.3) and can be obtained from the Member Resources section of the BIFMA web site.
5. The cost to non-BIFMA members is $50.00, and available free to all member companies in the Member Resources section of the BIFMA Web site. Certificates will be $10.00 per registered copy from BIFMA and issued only per the guidelines contained in the standard.
6. If you are currently only registered to OFI-9000 and it has been 3 years since your accreditation, your company will be required to re-certify your company business system to the new BIFMA Quality standard.
7. Any current recognition from any accredited certifying organizations for ISO-9000-2000, TS-16949, or QS-9000 will supersede this requirement.
8. Guidelines for certification are documented in the standard.
